Europe 18/19 - Germany

After leaving Iceland we headed for a one night layover in Amsterdam. There we planned to check of the Celebration of Lights festival, but ended up missing the ferry. Also a bottle that contained maple sirup which I packed as a gift broke in my luggage, so that was fun to clean. So here just one picture of a cozy bar we ended up in towards the end our our night and then go right to our next stop: Berlin!

Berlin

At the airport we picked up our rental which would take us from Berlin to Prague and then all the way back to my hometown Göttingen over the next week. First stop was our hotel in Berlin localed close to the Berlin Wall (Schulz Hotel Berlin Wall - nice rooms, affordable and great breaksfast buffet).

Then after a quick lunch having Schnitzel, Pommes and Beer we headed to the Museum Island to experience some culture. Hightlight for us here was the Pergamonmuseum, which features ancient Roman & Greek art collections, plus Babylonian & Persian antiquities.

Our walk also took us along the Nikolaikirche which has some beautiful sculptures.

As well as the Bundestag where we did the tour to see it. There was also a 10man yellow vest protest infront of it, which was interesting seeing the protests in france for comparison.

Our nighttime activities primarily consisted in finding all the different Christmas Markets and trying their Glühwein. Highlight was one in the eastern part of the city close to Warschauer Str. (Alternativer Weihnachstmark) since it was less busy and a bit more rustic with some fun activities.

Dresden

Dresden was just a short stopover on our way down to Prague. We visited the hugh Christmas Market which had some spectacular art pieces and live music. After that we just walked through the city to tak in the great architecture.

On our way down south he had another memorable stop at the Saxon Switzerland National Park. Amazing views, pure air and nice hiking trails. It was just perfect as an escape from the city. Big rocks, beautiful vistas, can only recommend checking it out if you happen to be in the area.

We hope we could give you some ideas on what to visit if you happen to visit these cities!
