Costa Rica 2021

Throwback to our trip to Costa Rica. We flew to San José, rented a car and then went to Tamarindo where we stayed for the duration.

First shock on the trip was the drive to the town as I though it would be a nice idea to take the scenic route that Google estimated to take roughly the same time as the highway. Big mistake! Apparently the road was flooded halfway along the way with the water being more than knee deep. We saw a few other cars getting through but it would be too much risk with our rental that was not a 4WD. As I tried turning around I got stuck in some loose rocks and luckily a local came by who had experience with the contiations and helped us getting out. After multipe hours of delay we finally arrived at our hotel close to the center of the city.

For theearly days we started doing some trips outside the city to explore the country a bit more. First on the list was the national park with it's rain forest and waterfalls.

The the following day we visited the beautiful town Las Catalinas, which has incredible buildings and is just fun to explore.

The town has also a nice beach were we were hanging out after.

After being out of town for most of the time we finally checked out the local beach in the city.

And then of course in true Caribbian fashion we also go drinks to enjoy the day

Over the next couple of days we did some more fun adventures like riding ATVs on a guided tour. This even led us to a secluded beach where we could snorkle.

One little accident that happend was that JJ was trying to turn with the ATV and fell off it. Litterally the same minute an ambulance just happens to come by and they ask her if everything is ok. JJ, like the trooper she is, just tells them that verything is fine and it's just a scratch so they get on their way. Well a few deays later the wound get infected and we have to get to the pharamacy to get it treated. So reminder: if there is an opportunity to get something treated then take it.

A few more activities included the Rio Negro Hot Springs where you could give yourself a mud-bath, which is good for the skin apparently.

And at night back in town exploring the night market

And also a nearby farm that has a guided horse tour

One more fun trip we did towards the end was to visit the Diamante Eco Adventure Park further in the North. Here you have a large park with animals to watch as well as some other fun activities. To get there we again encoutered our biggested enemy: The road being underwater with no notification about it anywhere. Just not something you encounter somewhere else. I can see now why it's recommended to rent a jeep here. Luckily we found a nice couple who offered us to take us along the final few kilometeres to our destination while we left the car parked.

Also we saw some sloths hanging out!

Funnily enough when we want back to Tamarindo at ight we ran into the same couple that gave us a ride earlier the day. We had trouble communicating (just Google translate) but a round of shots was due for our new friends.

Our trip was coming to a close so we decided to book a catamaran tour to enjoy the water. It was a fun way to meet some people, so I would recommend doing it earlier in a trip next time.
